Plan International Nigeria engage stakeholders in Bauchi on menstrual hygiene management

Driven by the quest to add voice in protecting the rights of a girl child in the society, Plan International Nigeria have engaged students of higher institutions and relevant stakeholders in Bauchi on Menstrual hygiene awreness workshop.

The workshop tagged Menstrual hygiene management is being implementated in three local government areas of the state and funded by Kimberly Clark Corporation (KCC).

National Programme Manager of the plan organisation Mohammed Nasir Musa in his welcome address hinted that Bauchi, Katagum and Ningi are the fisrt target Local Government Areas of implementation before extending to others based on success recorded.

According to him, the young girls pass through a lot during Menstrual period and what many think is that it is just about giving Them Sanitary Pad, but it far goes beyond that.

On his part, the Project coordinator, Afolabi Ahmed Shola explained that the programme has three strategies of Adolescent programming, community influencing, community and Mass media messaging all geared at achieving the core mandate of the organisation.

He added that adloscent programming is a point where Key beneficiaries will actively be engaged to discuss their peculiar challenge themshelves after which they will further come up with actions plans for implementation.

Afolabi also highligted the place of community influencing and Mass media messaging as varous stakeholders at this level must play integral parts in gathering support and consent for the programme implementation as well as dissemination.

Speaking, the Executive Charman Bauchi State primary Health Care Development Agency Dr Rilwanu Mohammed said mothers as well as teachers must be more friendly in teaching the girl child about Menstrual hygiene in order to improve its management as they grow up

Dr. Rilwanu Mohammed said that girls need the right information to safeguard them at this prime stage as many of them usually get confused or misled when not properly informed on the right approach toward Menstrual period.

One of the participants Deborah Tabara said the programme is very important due to some obvious poor knowlege of Menstrual hygiene among young girls.

The Menstrual hygiene management of the girl child is expected to improve at the end of the Project implementation.
