As Plateau  State confirmed fresh carriers of the coronavirus disease, the government said it was worried by the rapid surge in community transmission.

As a result, the government has warned that the earlier released ground rules must either be followed or stricter measures be adopted to stem the tide of COVID-19.

Secretary to the Government of the State (SGS), Professor Danladi Atu, who disclosed this at a joint press conference with the state commissioner of health, Ninkong Lar Ndam said that the state had recently carried out 150 tests which included 70 Almajirai out of which 10 turned out positive.

According to him,  “Most of those who tested positive came in from Kano and Lagos. In total Plateau now has 15 cases.”

While imploring the public not to panic, he enjoined them to be vigilant and report any suspicious case while assisting government to enforce the border closure directive which is one of the key steps adopted in curbing the disease.

Earlier,  the Commissioner for health said strict measures will be deployed to ensure that people stick to the ground rules as number of infected persons with the coronavirus in the state kept rising.

He added that the total lockdown will continue because the total lockdown for over three weeks indicated that the number of infected persons would have increased beyond 15.
