The appointment of Justice M. B. Dongban-Mensen as the acting President of Nigeria’s Court of Appeal has generated excitement across her state Plateau, as the Governor, Simon Lalong described it “as well deserved.”

Lalong in a congratulatory message eulogies the acting president “of her impeccable record of performance” in the Judiciary over many years, adding that he has no doubt that she’s in a familiar terrain.

According to him, “justice Dongban will discharge her new responsibility with the highest decorum, professionalism, diligence and patriotism so as to add value to the second highest court in the land.

“We in Plateau State are extremely proud of this feat by one of our daughters who has given her best in the service of Nigeria and in the dispensation of justice to all manner of people without fear or favour.

“We have no doubt that she will excel in this huge responsibility and demonstrate the true Plateau spirit of honesty, fairness and fear of God. We shall uphold her in prayers”, the governor stressed.

He particularly thanked President Muhammadu Buhari and Chief Justice of Nigeria for their recommendation and approval in line with constitutional provisions and judicial tradition,  promising that the choice of Dongban shall never be regretted.

It will be recalled that President Buhari approved the appointment of Justice Dongban for an initial period of three months, with effect from March 6, 2020, when the incumbent President of the Court of Appeal, Hon. Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa, would statutorily retire from service.

Justice Dongban-Mensem, who is the next most senior Judge of the Court of Appeal, will be acting pending when a substantive appointment to the position of the President of the Court of Appeal may be made by President Buhari subject to the confirmation of the Senate.

The President’s approval of the appointment of Justice Dongban-Mensem, followed the recommendation of the Chief Justice of Nigeria in line with the provisions of Section 238(4) & (5) of the 1999 Constitution as amended.
