Plateau State Governor Simon Lalong, steps in as new chairman, Northern Governors’ Forum


Plateau State Governor, Simon Bako Lalong, was Friday in Kaduna elected as chairman of the Northern States Governors Forum, (NSGF).

Lalong, who was re-elected Plateau State Governor, succeeds Borno State Governor, Alhaji Kashim Shettima, was rounded-off his two tenure as governor on May 29 and moves to the National Assembly as Senator representing Borno Central Senatorial District.
Lalong, a lawyer, was unanimously chosen by his colleagues from the northern part of the country at the NSGF meeting that lasted for over five hours.
Shettima, who made the announcement, said Lalong was chosen to take up the leadership of the forum due to his wealth of experience.
The body also set up a committee under the chairmanship of Kastina State Governor, Alhaji Bello Masari, to develop a regional plan of action for tackling the security challenges.
On the New Nigeria Development Company, (NNDC), the forum also set up a committee to study the current structure as well as meet with agents of the company on how best to revive the company towards the realization of its goals and objectives.
NSGF also appointed former presidential economic adviser, Dr. Tanimu Yakubu as the new chairman of the board of the company saying it would allow the current management to remain until appointment of a substantive management.
