Plateau open to partnerships – Governor Lalong
Governor Lalong of Plateau State
By Raymond Gukas, Jos
Plateau State Government has enjoined public spirited groups in the state to join it in its efforts to diversify governance through partnerships.
Governor Simon Lalong stated this at the weekend during the occasion of the presentation of 80 commercial vehicles to members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, in Jos, the state capital.
According to him, the state government will be happy to collaborate with any group, provided such group will be contributing to the overall economic development of the state.
Governor Lalong who noted that transportation was a back bone of economic activities and a facilitator of business and human interactions, added that the landmark event speaks volumes of “our determination to boost transportation in the State, which is no doubt the backbone of economic activities and a facilitator of business and human interaction.”
He reminded the people that soon after his re-election, “we enunciated our Next Level Vision anchored on three-point policy that encapsulates Peace, Security, and good governance; Physical Infrastructural Development; and Sustainable Economic Re-birth.
“We are therefore gathered here to further promote the transportation industry, which is at the core of sustainable economic rebirth, as it relates to the movement of goods and people from one part of the State to another and beyond”
With this landmark, the government would soon constitute the management of the Plateau State Road Traffic Administration and Vehicle Inspection Agency, which will address the numerous problems facing the Transport Sector and enhance traffic management in the State.
As such, “I urge motorists particularly the beneficiaries of these vehicles, to observe all traffic rules and imbibe safe driving culture to avoid needless loss of lives and associated damages to the vehicles”
He stressed that the government has passion for empowering its citizens and it did not hesitate in approving the request of the Union and directing the release of funds for the purchase of the buses, especially that the Union had raised 50 percent of the amount.
“This is the type of Public Private Partnership collaboration that we believe will go a long way in creating jobs and reducing crime on our streets. We shall therefore continue to offer support to similar ventures in our state.
