Police arrest 4 for arson in Uyo, recover stolen vehicle in Calabar

Police detectives from the Nigeria Police Force zone six Calabar have now arrested four suspected arsonists in Akwa Ibom State.

They acted on what they described as credible intelligence and petition from one Captain Ubong Edem Williams whose house the suspects invaded, set ablaze his properties and stole others.

In a police release signed by the zonal PPRO, SP Nelson Okpabi,  one Effiong Okon – 27years; David Aniefiok Etim – 20 years; Ubong Edet Ekwere – 28years and Effiong George Ikpaha – 27years all of Ikot Ikpe Uyo LGA, Akwa Ibom State had invaded Captain Williams’ premises along Abak Road Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

It added that on 9th September, 2023 at about 6am they set ablaze his Mercedes-Benz E-Class 2012 model,  one Mercedes-Benz Jeep 450 model and one Toyota Hiace Bus.

According to the statement, the suspects also carted away a 5.5KVA Generator, Sony Sound System, four boxes of clothes, Golf kits, Grass cutting machine and livestock valued at N20,000,000. 

“During search, three locally made guns were recovered and some of the stolen items.

“They were arrested on the 11th November, 2023.”

Okpabi disclosed further that from Intelligence reports, operatives from the Zone on 4th December, 2023, recovered a blue Toyota Corolla car Registration No. BUR 422 TS belonging to one Okaro Onoriode of Igbogidi New layout, Delta State  after it was sighted within the Calabar Metropolis. 

“Surveillance was mounted by Zone 6 Detectives and the vehicle recovered from Festus Alaemena (a car dealer)  along NNPC Road Calabar.

“Detectives from Delta State have commenced discreet investigation into the case and suspects have made useful statements to the Police.”

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 6 Headquarters Calabar.  AIG Jonathan Towuru has charged transporters, captains of industries, the business community and well-meaning Nigerians to be wary of the persons they employ or entrust with their businesses and valued assets during this yuletide season and beyond.

 He has also enjoined members of the public to take the security of their properties seriously and give timely information to enable the Police nib crime at the bud.
