The Anambra State Police Command has apprehended a 25-year-old man allegedly linked to a proscribed secessionist group during an intelligence driven operation in Ihiala. The arrest led to the recovery of two pump-action guns and 29 live cartridges.
This was disclosed in a statement released on Friday by the Command’s Spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga.
According to the statement, the suspect identified as Friday Nnamdi Anyikame was arrested in the early hours of November 20, 2025, by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad in Awkuzu following credible intelligence regarding his movements. The firearms and ammunition were reportedly found in his possession at the point of arrest.
Ikenga further revealed that the suspect confessed during interrogation to being an active member of an armed group and also disclosed that he operates from a criminal camp located in Ogbaru Local Government Area.
Police say the information he provided is already aiding ongoing efforts to locate additional hideouts connected to the group.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, commended the operatives for their swift action and ordered the immediate intensification of surveillance and raid operations across the State.
He reassured residents that the Command is closing in on other fleeing members of the gang and remains committed to dismantling the network behind the attacks.
The Commissioner also urged the public to remain vigilant and continue supplying the Police with timely and credible information to support ongoing security operations in Anambra State.
