The recent pronouncement by a group recommending Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, of the North West GeoPolitical Zone, as the consensus candidate for the PDP National Championship seat in the next Elective PDP National Convention is a Political Assault against the good people of North Central Geopolitical Zone.
The announcement is very insensitive to the Political Sensibilities of the North Central Geopolitical zone.
Let it be known by all the PDP faithfuls that such decision is not acceptable to the good people of North Central Geopolitical zone for very obvious reasons.
It would be recalled that Senator Iyorchia Ayu of North Central Zone was given the mandate in December 2021 to be the PDP chairman for four years but left the office after one year due to some internal crises. By the PDP’s operating constitution, Senator Ayu was expected to be replaced by another candidate from same North Central Zone but that did not happen due to some manipulations and the position is now being unconstitutionally occupied by someone from the North East Geopolitical zone with further impunity for confirmation as the substantive National Chairman.
This is pure power hijacking that comes with far reaching consequences and nobody is talking about it in the PDP but everybody expects peace and stability within the party.
It is of Common Sense, Equity, Fairness and Justice that the next available opportunity must be given to the NorthCentral Geopolitical zone to supply the next National Chairman of PDP in compensation for its earlier loss. That unique opportunity came up now and NorthCentral Geopolitical zone is being robbed again by the same manipulative agent who now micro-zoned the PDP National Chairmanship seat to North West Geopolitical Zone as if the North Central Geopolitical Zone has no qualified candidate to occupy the exalted seat.
This Political Insensitivity had been carried out, not caring that the same North West Geopolitical zone is still having the regional slot as the Secretary to the PDP National Board of Trustees, the BoT.
The reason being put forward that the. North Central Geopolitical Zone had more National Chairmen than any other zone in the North is not tenable. The North West Zone had produced the PDP National Chairmen in the persons of Dr. Haliru Bello and His Excellency, Senator Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi.
It should be noted that the frequency of the PDP National Chairmen in the North Central Geopolitical zone is meant to serve as a balancing variable in the PDP Northern Political Equation and nothing more. It is of political reality to appreciate that three Political Portfolios are very important in our current National circumstances: the President, the Vice-President and the Party National Chairman. These three people normally seat confidently to take so many vital decisions concerning the Nation, especially if the three are from same ruling political party. Over the twenty six years of Nigerian unbroken Democracy, the North Central Geopolitical zone has not occupied the two most important positions of the President and the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, in either of the two main Political Parties. North Central Geopolitical Zone had not even been given a single chance to be the Presidential Candidate of either of the two major Political Parties since 1999 todate despite the high quality of individuals in the zone. The North Central Geopolitical Zone is also usually ignored when it comes to the choice of a Vice-Presidential candidate as the Running Mate to a Southern Presidential candidate. The empirical evidence shows that the Southern Presidential Candidate always looks for a VP candidate from either the North West Zone or from the North East Zone. This is the Political Reality for now until when Political Power Rotation is constitutionally accepted such that the North Central Geopolitical Zone will
no longer be ignored for Presidential and VP slots.
It is therefore very clear from the above current political reality that the North Central frequency in the supply of the Party National Chairman is not a favour but a balance of power. It is this balance of power that is now being tilted and distorted to the disadvantage of the North Central Geopolitical zone by taking what rightly and constitutionally belongs to the zone to other zones in political impunity and political absurdity of far reaching political consequences.
It must also be noted that all other major Political parties such as the APC and the ADC have accordingly zoned their party National Chairmanship positions to the North Central Geopolitical Zone in due recognition of the National Political Realities.
We are also aware of the unwritten agreement by the PDP Governors’ Forum maintaining that the North Central Geopolitical Zone would be asked to supply the PDP National Chairman for the next Elective Convention to compensate the Zone for the Political Loss suffered. Let there be a disclaimer of such unwritten but a binding agreement by the PDP Governors’ Forum.
The North Central Geopolitical Zone as a Political Family is in complete disagreement with the so-called Micro-zoning of the PDP National Chairmanship Position away from the North Central zone to any other zone in our present circumstances, for reasons of Common Sense, Political Expediency, Rational Thought, Equity, Justice, Fairness and for the Peace, Stability and the Prosperity of our great party, PDP and the Nigerian Nation at large.
The Balance of Power as established in December 2021 must be maintained upto December 2029. This already established Political Equilibrium gave the North Central Zone, the PDP National Chairman and the PDP National Legal Adviser. The North Central Geopolitical Zone has in stock, abundance of personalities to swiftly occupy the two portfolios and move the party away from any avoidable crisis.
True Peace is not the absence of crisis, it is the presence of justice and equity, make no mistakes!
Political Exclusion often leads to Political Realignment. What makes anybody to think that the North Central Geopolitical Zone can not occupy the position of the PDP National Chairman in this political dispensation?
We hope the blind and the unbridled ambition of the manipulative agent will not sink our great party, the PDP beyond recovery.
And why this aggression, suppression, repression, assault and insults against the good people of North Central Geopolitical zone in the PDP?
Our Stance at the North Central Geopolitical Zone is backed by Precedents, Political Expediency, Common Sense and Equity.
A Party that ignores Equity invites Crises. A word is enough for the wise!
