The late Mohammed Goni
A former governor of Borno State in the second republic, Mohammed Goni, is dead.
A family source confirmed that he died on Wednesday.
Goni ruled Borno State between 1979 and 1983 under the defunct Great Nigeria People’s Party (GNPP) of late Ibrahim Waziri known for its “Politics without bitterness.”
The family source said he died after a brief illness. The late Goni had lived a low-key life after his tenure as governor in 1983 living in his flat at the old GRA in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
Gino’s dead comes less than two weeks after Borno State lost three prominent sons, Abba Kyari who was the Chief of Staff to the President, father of former governor Ali Modu Sheriff, the Galadima of Dikwa, Modu Sheriff and the Shehu of Bama, Kyari Ibn Umar El-Kanemi.
