The Principal of Brotherhood Model College, (BROMCO), Tari Pujeh has expressed worry at the continual decline in academic performances of boys in many schools.

She said the rate of such decline has become worrisome and portends danger tomorrow.

She spoke when her school inducted new prefects for 2023/2024 academic session, and honoured deserving students with Excellent Academic Badges for performing meritoriously throughout the second term.

Pujeh lamented that the performances of male students in different classes in her own school has given her a serious concern.

She wondered why female students performed more brilliantly and academically better than boys, saying such was not only playing out in the last school session.

“From the academic results in the last term, we have seen that female students in JSS 1 up to SSS classes performed more brilliantly, scoring 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th positions compared with the male students.

“This is a worrisome trend that should be arrested now.  Does it mean that the boys no longer pay attention to their studies in their schools.  As far as I know our teachers are very dedicated. This situation must change for good.”

She however stated that overall performance results was encouraging but that the boys will need ‘extra drilling’.

She gave insight on the need to celebrate excellent performance among students as they proceed with the 3rd academic term to enhance improved learning and boost their morale in character and learning.

Charging the students to be more dedicated to their studies, guest of honour, international president of Association of Brotherhood Academic Scholars, (ABAS), Dr. Ekuma Ngwu  congratulated the 21 new set of prefects, urging them to be exemplary in leading other students.

Ekuma stressed on academic discipline as they resume higher responsibilities, in order to leave a good mark.

He announced automatic scholarship awards for the new prefects and the Best five academic students to support and motivate them for more attainments.

He further announced that his association will pay WAEC fees in September 2024 for the 21 of them.

Commending the students, cmmissioner for education in the State, Dr Stephen Odey said the state government has devised means to encourage school children to devote interest in their studies in order to raise and sustain education standard in the state.

He however warned that his ministry would be harder on teachers whose schools continue to perform below expectations.
