Alhaji Maizubura

By Dauda R. Pam, Maiduguri

A former presidential aspirant under the defunct Social Democratic Party (SDP), Alhaji Umaru Muhammad Maizabura, has called on  President Muhammad Buhari to as a matter of urgency act fast in addressing the insecurity challenges in the north and country at large.
He made the call in an interview with journalists in Maiduguri on Friday, said enough is enough as President Buhari and the military should act immediately to address the problem of insecurity in Borno, Adamawa, Yobe, Katsina, Kaduna, Sokoto, Zamfara states and other parts of the country.
Akhaki MaiZabura who is also the National Chairman of the National Democratic Liberty Party (NDLP) said “though Borno has been battling with Boko Haram insurgency for over a decade, President Buhari should act fast in addressing the insurgency and other insecurity in challenges as people are being killed like chicken on daily basis. People of Nigeria elected you to address the security challenges, which is the primary responsibility of every government.”
On the re-opening of educational institutions as a result of Covid-19 pandemic, the former presidential aspirant also appealed to the federal government to reopen schools so that children will go back to school and write the senior school certificate Examinations SSCE and other examinations.
” I see no reason why our school can’t be re-opened for our children to go back to school and write their examinations, so that they will further their education or look for jobs. I appealed to the federal government and the minister for education in particular to re-open the schools. People have been going to the markets, worship centres, why not schools, they should reopen the school and ask the school authorities to ensure strict adherence to the COVID 19 prevention protocol”, he added.
He said ”not opening the school will cause more harm to our children and youths,, than the Coronavirus itself, as many of our youths will engage in drugs abuse, theft, and other crimes, as the saying goes ” an idle man is a devils workshop’, we should do everything to safeguuard our children who are our future.”
On the crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Maizabura advised President Buhari and the acting chairman of the party to intervene and salvage the party, by shopping for a credible man that will salvage the party from collapse, he said though he is not an APC member but as an elder statesman and a patriotic citizen, he believes that they work hard to bring somebody that act as a unifying factor in the party.
“Since the party is expected to zone the National chairmanship to the Northeast, I want to advice President Buhari and the national leaders of the party to consider  Engr Babagoni Machina,to become the national chairman of the party. As I believe, he is the best candidate to bring unity among the party members, though I don’t think Machina will accept this huge task of rebuilding the party but I advise the president to set up a committee of party leaders to go to him and persuade him in the interest of the party and the nation in general”, he added.
