President Bola Tinubu

The security and welfare of the people are the primary responsibilities of any government. Section 14 subsection 2b of the Nigeria constitution confirms this. It means that the government must take all possible measures to prevent actions that could harm security or lead to the death of its citizens.

If a government fails in this regard, it has no right to govern. Nigerians are not safe in their country, from Borno to Zamfara to Abia, and many other parts of the nation.
In a more responsible government, the President would prioritize security intelligence, with the first report on their desk each day being about security including the number of lives lost, covering everything from natural deaths to those caused by negligence, accidents, and murders.

This would enable the President to make informed decisions. For instance, if the report shows deaths due to accidents caused by bad roads, the President would direct the relevant ministry to address the issue.

There is no nation when everyone is dead, and the same applies to deaths caused by bandits, Boko Haram, or even assassinations.
The security report should also be the last thing the president sees before retiring for the day. One can only govern the living, not the dead.

In a serious government, the lives and prosperity of its citizens are of utmost importance. Only when they are alive and well-protected can other matters like the economy, health, education, foreign policy amongst others be addressed.
