Founder of African Institute of Science Administration and Commercial Studies in Republic of Togo, Professor Busari Shamsuddeen Akande has flayed the slow attitude of Nigeria’s federal government over evacuation of Nigerian students studying in several universities in Ukraine.

He vehemently blamed the federal government for not being proactive like other foreign governments which evaluated their students before the conflicts broke out.

“Federal Government of Nigeria needs to be proactive to emergencies such as what has happened to our students in Ukraine. We don’t need to shout all over the social media before they know the right thing to do. Check out India’s positive response to their citizens…”

In an interview on current ASUU strike as well as National Association of Nigerian Students, Akande said that resultant closure of public universities in Nigeria as a result of another strike, it has unwittingly increased the fortunes of private universities, especially those in neighbouring African countries.

Akande, a professor of Business Finance said, “The strike by Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) is rather good for private tertiary institution.

“Especially for us that are based outside the Nigerian shores here in French West Africa. Nevertheless, Private Institutions in Nigeria will equally be smiling to banks if they have all it takes to run private universities.

“Private Institutions in Nigeria ought to be first choice of any Nigerian Student but the reverse is the case. Many students and parents are looking outside the country for quality and timely tertiary education.”

Akande also faulted NANS for embarking on public protest all over the country, asking federal government to meet demands ASUU.

Akande, an indigene of Kwara State, particularly frowned at the manner they blocked major roads in parts of the country, debarring innocent other road users the right to move about.

He wondered how blockade of federal roads can solve ASUU issues.

“It’s a misplacement of priority. The end users, who are Nigerian students from lower backgrounds will suffer most. Instead of major roads blockades, They should rather have moved to National Assembly and Presidency.”
