Prominent politician, rights advocate, Dorothy Aken’ova, wants youths empowered to secure brighter future

A prominent politician and renown advocate for child rights and women empowerment, Dorothy Nuhu Aken’ova, has called on government, corporate organizations and wealthy individuals to empower youths.

She made the remarks at a press conference in Abuja to mark the International Youth Day.

According to her, the Day is important to celebrate and raise awareness about the pivotal role that young people play in the society.

She also stated that It provides an opportunity to acknowledge their unique contributions, listen to their voices and advocate for their rights and well-being.

“In Nigeria as in many parts of the world the youth represent a significant portion of our population. Their energy enthusiasm and creativity are valuable assets that we must harness to drive social economic and political development. It is essential to create an enabling environment that empowers young people equips them with the necessary skills and promotes their active participation in decision-making processes”, she said.

Aken’ova said as an advocate for child rights and women, she understands the importance of giving young people the platform and tools they needed to thrive. “The empowerment of youth goes beyond providing access to education; it includes promoting entrepreneurship fostering innovation and ensuring their voices are heard and valued. By investing in our youth we invest in the future of our nation,” she explained.

“I commend the efforts of organizations, institutions and individuals who tirelessly work to empower and uplift our youth. Their dedication and commitment to nurturing the talents and dreams of our young people deserve our support and appreciation. Together we can create a society where every young person has the opportunity to reach their full potential,” she said.

She called on the government, agencies civil society organizations, educational institutions and community leaders to prioritize youth empowerment initiatives and establish youth-friendly policies that foster inclusion, equal opportunities and a nurturing environment.

She, however commended the government of President Bola Tinubu for its plans to work towards creating an enabling environment for the country’s young population to thrive in various spheres of life.
