Alhaji Aliyu Mohammed Kiliya, National President, Nigeria Association of Auctioneers. has called on the government institutions in custody of the recovered assets forfeited to the Federal Government to play their roles of taken inventory and hand them over to professional Auctioneers with relevant knowledge and experience of the business of public disposal.
Kiliya who is also an auctioneering consultant with a cognitive experience spanning over four decades made the appeal on Monday while briefing news men on Auctioneers’ preparedness to help the Federal Government to generate revenue which he estimated to run into trillions of naira from the sale of the recovered assets.
He noted; “Following the Court Order nullifying committee set up for the disposal of recovered assets, I want to advise the government agencies in custody of those items scattered at all locations in the country to do the right thing. They should be guided accordingly to ensure that only Auctioneers with wide knowledge are engaged for transparency and accountability as enshrined in the Bureau of Public Procurement policy so that the objectives of the Federal Government can be achieved”.
He warned those intending to engage their friends without the requisite documents, knowledge and experience to desist from it or be ready to face the consequences.
“It’s is disturbing that those items have been depreciating under so many circumstances and exposure to vandalism for a very long time causing losses of value since directives was given by President Muhammad Buhari in 2018. It can better be imagined what will become of those recovered assets if the auction sale is not done before end of this government tenure.
“Again, in view of the economic challenges facing the country, I want to appeal to the affected agencies such as; Assets Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON); Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC); Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC); Ministry of Justice; Ministry of Defence, Nigeria Police Force; Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps; Nigeria Port Authority; Nigeria Maritime, Safety Agency and Nigeria Custom Service.
“Due to magnitude of the upcoming auction sale, the agencies affected must ensure that professionals such as estate surveyors and other valuers are engaged and must play their roles accordingly. Also to let the experienced auctioneers engaged to the needful so that objectives of the Federal Government can be realized”, he pointed out.
