Public office is trust that must give back to the people – Governor Radda

Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering tangible dividends of democracy at the grassroots, describing Danja Local Government Area as a priority beneficiary under the state’s local government autonomy framework.

The Governor stated this while flagging off a comprehensive scholarship and empowerment programme in Danja, noting that the initiative reflects his administration’s deliberate focus on people-centred, inclusive development that directly impacts communities.

Governor Radda explained that the programme represents another milestone in the Katsina State Government’s resolve to uplift lives and livelihoods across the state through practical and results-driven interventions.

“This programme is about touching lives directly and strengthening communities from the grassroots. Danja remains very important to this administration, and this visit is part of our sustained engagement with the people,” the Governor said.

He noted that the intervention covers scholarship support for students as well as targeted empowerment initiatives designed to improve the socio-economic wellbeing of residents, stressing that development under his leadership is focused on the everyday needs of the people.

“We are delivering projects that make a real difference. This is not my first visit to Danja, and it will certainly not be my last,” he added.

Commending the Chairman of Danja Local Government, Hon. Rabo Tambaya, Governor Radda praised what he described as a clear development vision and effective implementation of empowerment programmes, particularly those supporting farmers through the distribution of motorcycles and water pumps.

“Danja has enormous agricultural potential. With the right support, our farmers can do even more. These interventions will go a long way in boosting productivity and improving rural livelihoods,” the Governor explained.

The Governor also applauded the Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Hon. Shehu Dabai, for remaining connected to his roots and for personally sponsoring the construction of two classroom blocks in Arabic colleges within the local government.

“Leadership is a trust and a call to service. Those entrusted with public office must always remember to give back to the people,” Governor Radda urged, while assuring farmers of continued government support through timely provision of agricultural inputs and sustained development initiatives across Katsina State.

Earlier, the Chairman of Danja Local Government, Hon. Rabo Tambaya, said the event clearly demonstrated the practical gains of local government autonomy. He disclosed that since assuming office, his administration has executed 109 projects across Danja Local Government Area.

“Local government autonomy has allowed us to respond directly to the needs of our people. Within this period, we have delivered 109 projects addressing critical sectors of our community,” Tambaya stated.

Reaffirming his loyalty to Governor Radda, the Chairman pledged that every day of his tenure would count, with a firm commitment to delivering impactful projects aimed at improving the living conditions of residents.

As part of the empowerment programme, Hon. Tambaya announced the distribution of 120 motorcycles and 100 water pumps, the commissioning of additional local security operatives, and the personal sponsorship of ₦1.6 million for medical treatment, including the provision of an artificial limb to a resident. He also disclosed that ₦250,000 was provided as morale support to a member of the Community Watch Corps.

Also speaking, the Member representing Danja Constituency in the Katsina State House of Assembly and House Leader, Hon. Shamsuddeen Abubakar Dabai, described the occasion as historic and expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah for the opportunity.

“Empowerment is a responsibility entrusted to leaders by the people. We must continue to support initiatives that uplift our communities and secure a better future for our children,” he said.

He disclosed that through the Gwagware Foundation, a total of ₦25 million has been committed for scholarships benefiting 1,250 students in tertiary institutions, including undergraduates, NCE, and diploma students, with ₦20,000 allocated to each beneficiary.

“In addition, ₦7 million has been set aside to support 700 less-privileged women, with each receiving ₦10,000 to strengthen their economic resilience,” he added.

The Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Hon. Shehu Dabai, described the intervention as timely and deeply appreciated by the people of Danja, noting that it was a personal commitment rooted in his background.

“Coming from a Tsangaya background, this support is a responsibility I owe to my people,” he stated.

He disclosed that Danja Local Government has over 1,100 Imams, noting that a total of ₦11 million had been disbursed to support them as morale assistance in recognition of their role in guiding society.

“We have also sponsored the construction of two classroom blocks in different schools within Danja to strengthen education, especially Islamic and Arabic learning,” he concluded.

The programme was attended by members of the Katsina State Executive Council, lawmakers, traditional rulers, party leaders, community stakeholders, and residents of Danja Local Government.
