Public outcry as Plateau continue COVID-19 lockdown
Plateau Governor, Lalong

The hope for a relax of the weekly COVID-19 lockdown in Plateau state has been dashed as the government has disclosed the partial lockdown for this week resumes midnight Sunday.
The state commissioner of information and communications, Dan Manjang said in a press statement that the lockdown would be “observed on Mondays to Wednesdays, while Thursdays to Sundays are allowed for partial lockdown.”
However, he stressed that the “Governor Simon Bako Lalong assures the good people of Plateau State that Government is aware of the inconveniences the pandemic is having on livelihoods and is taking every step to ensure that there is relief.”
Though the government last week outlined some activities to mark the June 12 democracy day events, the programmes earlier released would be modified in order not to disrupt a smooth lockdown, he added.
According to him “you will also recall that a press release was issued last week outlining the programme of events to commemorate this year’s democracy day and the 5th anniversary celebration of the Rescue administration under the able leadership of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Simon Bako Lalong, KSGG.
“In order to abide by the existing lockdown order, the time table for the inspection and Commissioning of Projects has now been adjusted to when the lockdown is relaxed within the week,” he declared.
The commissioner emphasized that though the government was not unmindful of the wishes of the populace to relax the lockdown, he assured that there is “an ongoing engagement with critical stakeholders that will pave the way forward.”
He advised that while this was being done, “citizens are advised to continue to abide by the existing order as security agents will continue to enforce compliance.”
