Reactions trail rescheduled governorship, state assembly election date

The eagerness electorates have to exercise their civic responsibility on 11th March, 2023 to elect Governors and members of state Assembly
shouldn’t be discouraged despite the adjustment of the elections date.
Opinions by some people in Adamawa state who reacted to adjustment of Governorship and State Assembly elections with a week from 11th to 18th March, 2023 by the Independent National Electorate Commission (INEC).
The INEC boss said the shifting of the elections date was necessitated by the ruling
of Presidential Electoral Petition Tribunal on the reconfiguration of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) used for the
Presidential election held on 25th February, 2023.
Speaking, Hon. Hussaini Abdullahi, a politician who is vying for State Assembly seat in Adamawa, Song Constituency explained that the postponement came as a shock considering the level of preparedness they have put in place and all is set for the d-day, however, said it is a blessing, as it would afford them an opportunity to reach out to
areas not covered by campaign.
According to Abdulahi, ” I’ m calling on eligible voters to be calm, but come out enmasse on the reschedule date to
exercise their franchise and pray that the election will be peaceful.
Ije Luka, A businessman whogave his as Ije Luka otherwise called ‘Margi
Boy’ said the rescheduling of elections is normal in Nigeria, because it has happen in the previous elections and hope the postponement is for good,
but called on electorates to come out and vote their preferred candidates on the rescheduled
date.
“We pray for good governance in the state and the country as a whole and I’m calling on the
Electoral officers to do the best they can for us, we don’t want to hear another complain again”.
On her part, Blessing Ishaya said,
electorates are eager to cast their votes considering the situation in the country, so that
change will be made in the system.
“We electorates should exercise patient, but we should come out enmasse on the reschedule date and cast our votes to credible leaders, while INEC should adhere to the rules of the rescheduled date and conduct the elections”.
Ezekiel Tumba a trader lamented over the rescheduled election pointing out that the situation people find themselves is unsuitable because people are suffering of ‘no money as a citizen you are buying naira with money before you eat.
But said, “if the election is over at least we would have been counting days that by so so time money will be into circulation now you can imaging despite the bank are obeying the federal government to release old note N500 and N1000 people are not collecting them where are we heading to.
