Regional Development Minister commissions NEDC intervention projects in Taraba

The Minister of State for Regional Development, Uba Maigari Ahmadu, on Thursday commissioned the Ultra-Modern Institute of Entrepreneurship at Taraba State University, Jalingo.
According to the Minister, the project is one of the many projects constructed by the North East Development Commission across the North East region as intervention toward the upliftment of Tertiary education in the region.
The Minister reiterated the resolve of the administration of Bola Tinubu to investing in education and youth empowerment as a pathway to national development.
He emphasized that the Entrepreneurship Institute has the capacity to nurture innovative minds capable of competing globally and encouraged students to acquire practical skills alongside their academic qualifications.
The Minister commended Governor Agbu Kefas, the Vice-Chancellor, and the university management for their dedication to educational development.
Also speaking at the event, the Managing Director, North East DevelopmentCommission, Alhaji, Mohammed Goni Alkali described the Entrepreneurship Institute as one of the Commission’s flagship projects in the North-East region.
He disclosed that the facility comprises two conference halls, fourteen offices, two secretariat offices, waiting areas, and conveniences on each floor.
“The Institute is also equipped with a fully functional ICT Centre featuring 50 desktop computers in the software laboratory and 20 hardware equipment toolkits in the hardware laboratory.”
Alkali further revealed that a solar-powered 10,000-gallon overhead water tank was constructed at the Female Zenith Hostel to enhance water supply within the university.
He noted that the Commission executed the project as part of its commitment to strengthening education and entrepreneurship development in the region.
He expressed satisfaction at its completion and urged students to make optimal use of the facilities.
In his closing remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, of the University, Prof. Sunday Bako, stated that the new structure has elevated the Entrepreneurship Centre to a full Institute comprising four departments.
He assured stakeholders that the university would maximize the use of the facility to enhance students’ capacity, competence, and employability after graduation.
“The commissioning marks another milestone in the development of Taraba State University, reinforcing its commitment to innovation, skills acquisition, and academic excellence”, he said.
Other projects commissioned and handed over were a renovated and fully equipped 60-bed capacity male and female wards; three two-bedroom staff quarters; fencing of the staff quarters; three boreholes; and solar-powered streetlights at the General Hospital in Zing, in Zing LGA of the state.
The commissioning exercise in Taraba marks a continuation of the Commission’s ongoing inspection, commissioning, and handover of completed intervention projects to governments across the six states of Nigeria’s North-East region.
The delegation included the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Commission Mohammed Goni Alkali; the Pioneer Chairman of the NEDC Governing Board, Gen. Paul Tarfa (rtd) and the Commission’s Secretary Mr. Wesley Tafida, among other dignitaries.
