Regular breast check can stem cancer ravages – Women journalists, Pink Africa Foundation

Pink Africa Foundation in collaboration with Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Cross River State have embarked on public sensitisation of women on the need for regular breast examinations as this can avert cancer ravages.

The two groups took to the streets with the theme “Step Up Together” to drive home their message.

Chairman, Nigeria Association of Women Journalists,( NAWOJ ), Comrade Umo Basi-Edet said the partnership with Pink Africa which has existed over the Years has had tremendous impact on millions of people in the State through its free Medical outreach.

Comrade Umo Basi-Edet who doubles as the State Chairperson of Standup for Women Society (SWS) in Cross River State , harped on the need for regular breast examination stressing that Early detection remains the key.

“Unfortunately, a lot of persons do not carry out routine checks and therefore present themselves very late for treatment. This remains a major challenge in the treatment of Cancer ” she noted.

The President of Pink Africa Foundation, Dr Nchewi Ani represented by the Secretary-General, Gedah Etefia emphasized the need for people to take responsibility of their health.

She observed with dismay that most people report late for treatment thereby giving them a limited chance of survival.

The 2021 Calabar Go Pink Day featured Free Breast Scan for over one thousand persons and donation of post mastectomy bras worth millions of naira and wigs to survivors who have either lost their breasts or hair in the cause of treatment.

Free Cervical and Prostrate screening were also carried out.
