Renowned Nigerian evangelist, Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, passes away at 80

Nigeria has lost one of its most influential Christian leaders, Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, who passed away at the age of 80.
The founder and president of the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association (UUEA), Rev. Ukpai died on October 6, 2025, as announced on his official Instagram handle on Monday.
In a heartfelt statement titled “With Hearts Full of Gratitude, We Celebrate the Triumphant Homegoing of Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai,” his family expressed deep appreciation for a life dedicated to God and humanity.
“With hearts full of gratitude, we celebrate the triumphant homegoing of Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, who passed into glory on October 6, 2025, at the age of 80. A faithful soldier of the Cross has been called to rest,” the statement read.
Rev. Ukpai was celebrated for more than six decades of impactful ministry, marked by passionate evangelism, in-depth biblical teaching, and powerful prophetic manifestations. Through his non-denominational ministry, he touched millions of lives both in Nigeria and around the world.
Described as a “spiritual general” and “a founding father of faith,” he was also a loving husband, devoted father, and mentor to countless spiritual protégés. His legacy lives on in the countless souls he won for Christ and the ministries he inspired.
“While we mourn his physical absence, we rejoice that he has finished his race and now rests in eternal praise,” the family stated, adding that details of the funeral arrangements would be announced in due course.
Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai was based in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, where the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association is headquartered. He is survived by his wife, children, and numerous spiritual sons and daughters.
His passing marks the end of an era, but his influence and message continue to resonate across generations.
