Professor Tanko Ishaya
The Honourable Member representing Ado/Ogbadibo/Okpokwu Federal Constituency, Dr. Francis Ottah Agbo, has expressed joy at the appointment of his friend, Professor Tanko Ishaya as the new Vice Chancellor of the University of Jos.
Dr. Ottah Agbo in congratulatory message by his Media Adviser, Mr. Andrew Agbese, said the appointment of Professor Ishaya following recommendation by the Joint Council and Senate Selection Board of the institution after a rigorous selection process, attests to his outstanding scholarship and erudition.
The Feedback Lawmaker who doubles as Chairman, Narcotic Drugs Committee and Spokesman of the House Minority Caucus, said for an academic of international repute like Prof. Ishaya to answer the clarion call to come back and serve his fatherland, it is only appropriate he is given the chance to further build on the projects he started at the Ivory Tower, as well as take UNIJOS to the promise land!
“I observe with delight that when Professor Ishaya was specially requested by the University to come back and serve as the Director, Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and as the pioneer Head of Computer Science Department at the University, he did not hesitate but came back to serve and was able to build the department to what it is today.
“This is an act of patriotism and I believe his elevation will spur him to do more. I commend the Governing Council, the entire university and National Universities Commission, for putting a round peg in a round hole.
“On behalf of my family and the long suffering people of Ado/ Ogbadibo/ Okpokwu Federal Constituency, I congratulate you and pray the good Lord to sustain you in wisdom and good health to steer the ship of the University aright by transforming UNIJOS to one of the best universities in the world.”
While stressing that the challenges before the new VC are enormous but surmountable, Dr. Ottah Agbo urged Prof. Ishaya who is billed to resume as vice chancellor on December 1, 2021, to cause the success of his years of research and experience to bear on his administration.
