Road safety boss tasks Special Marshals on capacity-building to mitigate road mishaps

The North East zonal Command ing Officer of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Assistant Corps Marshal Joel Dagwa have charged special Marshals of the Corps in Bauchi to keep updating their knowledge on strategic ways of reducing Road accidents.

The zonal corps Marshal boss gave the charge on Thursday while addressing the special Marshals at their sectorial workshop tagged, “Volunteerism in Road Safety Management: Limits and Possibilities”.

He submitted that such update in managing Road traffic for accident reduction is vital even as Bauchi State is strategically located in the map of Nigeria as a gateway to the North East which made the traffic volume to be expectantly high.

Assistant Corps Marshal Joel Dagwa who appreciated the contributions of special Marshals in Road accident reduction added that there is more work to do to meet the global standard and such workshops is a veritable avenue to acheive the goal.

Declaring the workshop open, Corps Marshal Dauda Ali represented by Corps Commander Anthony Uchenna Etuche said the administration wish to realise the goal of 5% reduction in crashes through capacity building.

He said they are moved by the determination of the special marshal in adding Colour to the mandate of regular Marshals by deriving joy in saving lives.

Chairman of the occasion Baraden Bauchi Alhaji Umar Dahiru said the special Marshals makes immense contributions in ensuring safer high way in the country through controlling of traffic.

He argued that Nigeria is tagged a country that have the highest Road accidents due to its Population and bad Road Networks calling on the government to do more in this area.

In his remark the zonal coordinador of the special Marshal Magistrate Abdullahi Jumba who stood in for the National coordinator said they are normally expecting a lot traffic especially in this ember month.

“The workshop is a day to brainstorm, ponder and wonder ways to forge ahead in managing traffic and prevent g accidents in highways”, he said.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Sector Commander of Bauchi Command, Corps Commander Patrick I. Ikaba explained that, ” Special Marshal is the complementary unit of regular Marshals who volunteer with interest to serve the nation without being paid”.

He enjoined them to be proactive in organising capacity building for members and appreciated all stakeholders that lend them hands of support in carrying out the important task of saving lives.

The workshop had technical sessions where members where exposed on their Primary duty as special Marshals as well as health aspect and expected response.
