The bond within the fold of Rotary Clubs came to bear at the investiture of Rotarian Emmanuel Abonta as the 9th President of Rotary Club of Rotary Club Abuja Kubwa.
The love, communism and friendship were on display as members and well-wishers were at hand at the prestigious Top Rank Hotel, Utako, Abuja to welcome Rotarian Abonta into the Rotary leadership position.
The ambience at the Monalisa event hall of the investiture was breathtaking with the perfect setting and decorations to blend with the occasion. The performance of Afri Cultural Troupe added much spice to the ceremony.
All the presidents of Rotary Clubs including the President of presidents, Rotarian Ijeoma Agwu at the ceremony surrounds as Rotarian Abonta was invested with the pendant of leadership.
In his speech, Rotarian Abonta said this is a year of Hope with great promise and as a club, hope to take big audacious steps to impact lives.
According to him, the overriding goal for the 2023/24 rotary year is to increase quality and quantity of membership and execute effective service projects that creates hope and gives visibility to RCAK and Rotary in general.
He noted that as he assumes the role of the 9th President of the Rotary Club, he is humbled by the trust and confidence placed on him pointing out that he is fully aware of the responsibility that comes with the position and promised to carry it with utmost dedication and integrity.
Rotarian Abonta stressed that during his tenure as President, he envisioned a Rotary Club that continues to be a beacon of hope, compassion, and service.Abonta joined the Rotary family in 1992 and served as Vice President, Rotaract Club of D-Line, Port Harcourt under PDC Rotarian Olajumoke Bamigboye, who was then the President of Rotaract Club of D-Line.
He joined the Rotary Club of Abuja Kubwa, in 2020 and has continued to play active role in the club. Positions held in Rotary since aside membership of various committees, include, Chairman RCAK Retreat Committee 2020/2021, Chairman RCAK Investiture Committee. 2021/2022. Incoming President, RCAK-2022/2023. District Audit Committee Chair, Rl D-9125-2022/2023.
Rotarian Abonta background
Rotarian Abonta is a Chartered Management Consultant/Certified National Accountant.
He holds a Master’s Degree training in Organizational Leadership from Eastern University, Pennsylvania and Post graduate training in Housing Finance for Sub-Saharan Africa from University of Cape Town. He also holds a Post graduate Diploma in Professional Accounting and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting from University of Calabar.
Abonta has over 30 years of progressive accounting, auditing, tax, financial management, and leadership experience in both profit and not-for-profit organizations including an experience as Head of Finance in an International Agency, Habitat for Humanity International, Nigeria.
Besides, he worked with UBA and Regent Group and has consulted for many agencies including Global Funds, ARFH and SOGON. He is the President/CEO at Greenolives Consulting, Principal Partner at Emmanuel Abonta & Co (Certified National Accountants), and President at Greenolives Development Foundation.
Rotarian Abonta, also has several certificates and awards from various professional bodies and Rotary. These includes: Fellow, Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN), 2021, Associate Member, Chattered Institute of Forensics and Certified Fraud Examiners of Nigeria (CIFCFEN), 2021; Associate Member, Institute of Cost Management Nigeria, 2003Registered Professional, Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria, 2014, Associate Member, Nigerian Institute of Management (Chartered), 2003 ANAN FCT-1 Branch, Distinguished Award of Service and Dedication, 2022 University of Cape Town Post Graduate Certificate in Housing Finance for Sub-Saharan Africa, 2017, Executive Certificate in Housing Micro-Finance from Lapo Institute, 2015, Paul Haris Fellow, Rotary International, 2021, Partner, Rotary Club of Abuja, Karu Housing Estate (2021/2022), Most Active Committee Chair, Rotary Club of Abuja, Kubwa, (2020/21), Certificate of Outstanding Performance as Investiture Committee Chair, 2022, Excellence Service Award from all Nigerian Rotaract Multi-District Conference, 2023.
Abonta is happily married to Adaeze Abonta and blessed with three beautiful gifts Daniella, David and Diamond.
Twenty-one persons from within and outside Rotary Club were recognized with awards at the investiture. Some of them are Uzochukwu Akunedozie, Hon. Engr. Akarachi Etinosa, Chijioke Ekechukwu, Chief Olugbenga Rotimi, Sir Rowland Eyinna Abonta, Rotarian Mrs. Chinwe Ojiego, Princess Nky Joy Okoro and Mrs. Susan Okolo. Others are Emmanuel Sule, Dr. Onyii Ojiego, Emmanuel Wobo, Zoryi Josco Nwamanie and Cephas B. Tiye among others.
