The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike has reiterated that the provision of road infrastructure across the FCT satellite towns was ensuring that the positive impact of the Renewed Hope agenda is felt in rural communities.

Barr. Wike made the remarks in Abuja on Friday, February 6, 2026 while briefing journalists, after an extensive tour of ongoing rural infrastructure projects within Karu, Karshi, Bwari and Kubwa satellite towns.

This was contained in a statement by Rabi Musa Umar, Deputy Director of Press in the Office of the Minister.

The Minister noted that the ongoing expansion of rural road infrastructure was in line with the President’s directive to ensure that the benefits of the Renewed Hope Agenda were felt beyond the city center, reaching residents of satellite communities.

“It’s a directive from Mr. President that there should be a massive road network in the satellite towns, not just in the city”, Barr. Wike stated, and pledged the commitment of the FCT Administration to actualizing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision for rural development.

Speaking on the observed progress during the tour which began with the inspection of the rehabilitation and expansion of the road from Karu bridge to Custom Clinic within Karu site, the Minister expressed satisfaction with the quality of job being done by the ingenious contractor, Abdul Val Nigeria limited, stressing that the project, which is expected to be completed by May or June 2026, will enhance connectivity and stimulate economic activities within the area.

Barr. Wike who also inspected the very crucial Apo-Karshi road, which was originally awarded in 2010 but had faced over a decade of delays, revealed that the FCT Administration had to take decisive action to end years of excuses by terminating the contract, with the President’s approval, and re-awarding it to Messrs SCC.

He commended SCC over the progress of work, noting that the company had already deployed significant equipment to the site and has committed to completing the very vital link by the end of 2026.

The Minister said, “Because of the importance of that road, we couldn’t wait any longer for the excuses of the previous contractor. We had to seek the permission of the President and we got that job terminated and it was awarded to SCC. You can see how serious the company is and their kind of equipment”, Barr. Wike stressed.

Providing update on the emergency construction of the Bwari to Kubwa road as well as the rehabilitation of the Gbazango road in Kubwa, Barr. Wike said the transit corridors are expected to be delivered before the end of the year, adding that the road projects will bring relief to residents in these communities when completed.

He said, “It’s a massive infrastructure going on in the FCT and the satellite towns. Of course, the economy will change, people will be very happy. If you went with us from Bwari to Kubwa, it’s unbelievable. I’m happy that we have the opportunity to support Mr. President to achieve the Renewed Hope Agenda”.

The Minister further disclosed that the 17-kilometer Gomani to Yangoji road in Kwali area council is also nearing completion and would be inaugurated by the end of the year. “We are serious that by the end of the year, all these projects will have been completed for the use of the people”, the Minister stated.

Barr. Wike however expressed visible displeasure at the sight of refuse heaps in Orozo, along the Nyanya/Karshi road which he observed during the tour and issued a stern warning to the Coordinator of the Satellite Towns Development Department (STDD) to ensure that the refuse is evacuated with immediate effect.

Barr. Wike made it clear that the level of filth along the road was unacceptable as the areas have transitioned from villages to developed urban hubs. He issued a deadline of next Monday for the refuse to be cleared, warning that failure to do so would result in the immediate termination of the coordinator’s appointment.
