Sabotage suspected as hoodlums attack Benue Lottery Board headquarters, destroy electronic signboard
The headquarters of the Benue State Sports Marketing and Lottery Board (BSLMB) was attacked by vandals on Monday, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.
The hoodlums stormed the premises, destroying a state-of-the-art electronic signboard that was commissioned just last week by the Commissioner for Sports, Youths and Creativity, Rt. Hon. Terkimbi Ikyange.
The signboard, was cost a lot of money, was installed to promote the board’s presence in the state under the directive of Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia.
However, in a shocking twist, the Executive Secretary of BSLMB, Hon. Michael Uper, alleged that the attack was masterminded by Hon. Isaac Imoter Akaager, Special Adviser to the Governor on Local Market Coordination and Monitoring.
“We are appalled by this senseless act of vandalism,” Hon. Uper said. “The signboard was a symbol of our commitment to promoting sports development in the state, and its destruction is a clear attempt to undermine our efforts.”
Hon. Uper expressed dismay that an appointee of the same government would allegedly orchestrate the destruction of the signboard.
“It’s baffling that someone who is supposed to be working towards the development of the state would resort to such tactics,” he added.
The BSLMB boss called on the relevant authorities to intervene and bring the perpetrators to justice. “We urge the government to take immediate action to investigate this incident and ensure that those responsible are held accountable,” he said. “We cannot afford to let this kind of behavior go unchecked.”
The incident has sparked widespread condemnation, with many calling for swift action to apprehend the culprits. As the investigation unfolds, the people of Benue State await justice and hope for the safety and security of public properties.
The development has raised concerns about the safety of government properties and the need for increased security measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
