The member representing Taraba at the Northeast Development Commission, Chief David Kente on Sunday called on the people of the state to use the occasion of this year’s Sallah celebration to reach out to the less privileged members of the society.
In a press statement on the occasion of Sallah, Kente noted that “the global devastation caused by COVID-19 has made it even more important for the Muslim Ummah and the entire people of the state to uphold and sustain the virtues that characterise the holy month of Ramadan and the great feast of Sallah.”
He urged all warring factions in the state to sheath their swords and embrace peace in the spirit of Sallah.
“Let me first of all congratulate the Muslim Ummah in the state and the nation at large on the successful completion of the holy month of Ramadan and Sallah celebration. We are all aware of the challenges that are confronting the world as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, despite efforts of the governments at all levels, we know that it has been a trying moment for all of us, especially for the less privileged. It is therefore imperative that we reach out to them in our own little ways as much as possible.
“I urge the all Muslims in the state and country at large to sustain the virtues of Ramadan fast and embrace peace and religious tolerance. We must learn to resolve our differences amicably and live as one. When we learn to practice the teachings of the holy books, we would have a more peaceful and developed society.
“It is also very important that the people do not relent in their observance of social distancing, use of face masks, and other hygiene protocols that are meant to reduce the risk of exposure to the deadly virus.”
