Sankera-Chito-Vaase Road: Communities embark on self-help, seek assistance

Communities along Sankera-Chito-Vaase road under the auspices of “United Communities for Sankera-Chito-Vaase Road Project” have cried out to the government and well spirited individuals to assist them in the construction they have embarked upon.
They made the call in Chito on Saturday 11th February, 2023, during the flag off of the construction project, done by the Mue Ter Ingyen, Chief D.K Ija

Central Organizing Committee reveals that the road is 43 kilometers long.
According to the statement, the Sankera-Chito-Vaase road which cuts across five council wards of Borikyo, Kendev, Adzendeshi, Aterange and Lumbuv is usually impassable during the raining season forcing the communities to resort to self-help.
During the flag off, chairman of Central Organizing Committee, Engineer Sarverun Mathias, promised to be accountable and give his best for his community.
The chairman appealed to the people to make haste in paying their tax so as to complete work before the rains will return.
Chairman Technical Committee, Architect Abraham Ikyuan, informed the people that the first face of the construction will be earth work as asphalt was too capital intensive for the community to afford within a short time.
Architect Ikyuan on behalf of himself and the Ikyuan family donated three hundred litres of diesel for the construction.
Chairman Ukum Local Government Council Mr Tyoumbur Kartyo represented by his deputy Mr Solomon Akpaaku maintained that he will give any assistance required of him for the success of the project.
Speaking during the flag off, the Mue Ter Ingyen, His Royal Highness Chief D.K Ija, promised to support the project with all his strength as he elected to conscientize and encourage the people to embrace the project as theirs.
In their separate remarks on behalf of the council wards, Chiefs, Myaga Unôngo, Tyoor Borikyo, Atôndo Gôngor,Tyoor Kendev, Ortule Mende, Tyoor Adzendeshi and representative of the Tyoor Aterange, Chief Luper Ungbea, all promised to complete their quota of the estimated sum of One Hundred and Twenty Million Naira budgeted for the first face of the construction within a short time.
Others who spoke including Very Rev Fr Moses Igba, first indigenous priest from Torov, Rev Pastor E.S Azaawe, of NKST Igyuse all appealed to the stakeholders within this area not to antagonize the young men who initiated this noble idea or see them as enemies or wanting to take over their sits but as progressive children to be supported.
Pastor Azaawe donated thirty litres of diesel to aide the construction work.
All the speakers appealed to the government and other well spirited individuals to assist the communities by donating to the project to make it a success and alleviate the suffering of the people who don’t have any other alternative than this road.
The project is a community effort initiated by the youths within the communities having suffered for a long time plying the road.
The project has an estimation of One Hundred and Twenty Million Naira for the first face of the construction which is Earth work and hydraulic structures.
