The Bank Verification Number(BVN) committee led by Senator Adamu Ibrahim Gumba, recently constituted by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has concluded its assignment after three months.
The committee briefed journalists on the outcome of its discovery at the conference hall of the Head of Civil Service at the state secretariat, Bauchi.
The chairman of the committee Adamu Ibrahim Gumba unfolded that out the 30, 226 people screened, 24,736 people have been verified and cleared for payment.
The committee also said during the process of the exercise it discovered 596 dead people still enjoying on the payroll of state while 4,578, civil servants and pensioners failed to show themselves before the committee for verification after been given much chances to appear.
Senetor Gumba, said “for these who did not appear before the committee, may be they Will have another Chance for fairness to be verified by the implementation committee to be set up. I think they are suspects and everything must be done to identify them.”
The chairman said all the verified workers and pensioners were recommended to be given their three months salaries for the months of October, November and December which his Excellency has approved and directed for payment with immediate effect.
He said “on the issue of 596 dead workers and pensioners they recommended to the state government that their names be removed from the pension and the state payroll.
According to him “if the entire 130, 000 workers in the state and local government as while as the pensioners are verified more ghost workers Will be discovered because logically,if we could uncover many ghost workers from the 30,226 people, how much more will be discovered should the entire number were verified.”
While thanking the state government for the opportunity and support given to the committee to successfully discharge their three months assignment, Senator Gumba , believes what ever amount of money Will saved from the exercise will be used by state government to improve the welfare of the state civil service delivery and many fresh young people will be employed as replacement into the service.
