The statement signed by Opiah Valentine, Head of Information and Public Relations of the council reiterated the decision was in line with a wide range consultation between stakeholders as well as the traditional council.
It said “following the series of insecurities experienced recently in different parts of our communities, the authorities of Mangu Local Government Council in-conjunction with the Mangu Local Government Traditional Council has suspended all traditional and cultural festivals in the area for the year 2020 to mourn our brothers and sisters who were murdered in these incidences.
“In line with this development, the leaderships of the various Development Associations in all the Chiefdoms at different levels are hereby requested to suspend all arrangements relating to all intended different community cultural festivals and notify their subjects, friends and well-wishers accordingly please.
“This decision to suspend the cultural festivals in the area is also in line with government determination to protect the lives and properties of her citizens.
“The Executive Chairman Mangu Local Government Council, Hon. Engr. Lawrence Gideon Danat wish to therefore call on all stakeholders to accept this decision of suspending our revered cultural festivals in good fate to enable government serves its citizens better.”
It is recalled that in the early days of the year, some unknown gunmen invaded Kulben village in Kombun district of the council area, where they left about 12 deaths as a result.
Only two days ago, another 13 were killed in neighbouring Kwatas in Bokkos Local Government Area and all the attacks are allegedly linked to the activities of Fulani herdsmen.
The state governor, Simon Lalong has since issued a matching order to the state police command to arrests Fulani Ardos and leaders of the affected villages so that they produce the killers or face the wrath of the law.
