Journalists have been urged to see their jobs as purely services to God and His kingdom.
They have also been charged to know that purveyors of fake news, disinformation and misinformation are agents of the devil, and should endeavour to flea such tendencies.
The new spokesman of Brotherhood of the Cross and Star, Dr Amah Williams made the charge today when he and his team paid a courtesy call on the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Cross River State.
William described the visit as “an avenue for cross -pollination of ideas for effective information dissemination and spread of the gospel.
The BCS spokesman admonished journalists: “You should see your job as not just a professional practice but also a great service to God and His Kingdom.
“We must be cautious of the antics of the devil, orchestrated by fake news and misinformation, in attempts to discredit the gospel of God.
“it is your responsibility as a body to check against such anomalies.”
The spiritual organization sought to strengthen collaboration with the NUJ to enhance the propagation of the gospel across the world.
Williams said, “We want to appreciate you and your members for your cooperation and the good working relationship between the NUJ and BCS as a corporate organization.
“Our visit here is to introduce to you the new leadership at the BCS’s office of the Spokesman, familiarize with you as an important ally, as well as bolster the existing relationship between the two bodies,” the new spokesman continued.
Conveying BCS leader Olumba Olumba Obu’s goodwill to the NUJ, the spokesman assured that “the Holy Father, your patron, has directed me to inform you that he is with you at all times.”
He reminded journalists of the importance of their profession with a Bible reference commanding thus: “… Go ye into the world and preach the gospel to every creatures… and to the ends of the earth.”
He drew their attention further to the biblical trumpet that will herald God’s judgment upon the world as a symbolism of the spreading of the gospel.
“We thank God for the new media and the technological advancement today, which allows for effective propagation of the gospel to a heterogeneous audience across the world,” Dr. Williams remarked.
Also speaking, deputy spokesman, Archbishop Emmanuel Ekuri, expressed delight at the opportunity to meet with members of the ‘fourth estate of the realm’.
He hoped that their cordial affinity with the media will be the beginning of better times to come.
He averred that the evolution of the media is a manifestation of God’s word, noting that media evangelism was the only way to fulfilling the biblical injunction of taking the gospel to the ends of the earth.
Responding, Chairman of NUj in Cross River State, Comrade Nsa Gill, described their relationship with BCS as longstanding.
He confirmed that His Holiness Olumba Olumba Obu, the spiritual leader has been their longstanding patron and solid support base of the Union.
Gill congratulated the new BCS spokesman for being found worthy of the appointment, and expressed optimism in his capacity to discharge the demands of his office.
He assured the team of his Union’s commitment to sustain the robust relationship with the BCS.
He called on the spokesman to never hesitate to reach the Union on matters relating to publicity and or other issues of mutual interest.
He appealed to the spiritual leader to reinvent the defunct Best Investigative Journalist Award or introduce new awards in order to motivate media practitioners in the State.
