The Senator representing Kaduna South Senatorial District, Barrister Sunday Marshall Katung, has entered into a partnership with a United States-based non-governmental organisation, Project CURE, to supply medical equipment to selected general hospitals across the district.
The medical supplies, valued at about $300 million, are being donated free of charge by Project CURE, with facilitation from Senator Katung in line with the federal and state governments’ drive to improve access to affordable healthcare. The consignment is expected to arrive in Nigeria within the next five to six months.
Speaking during a needs-assessment tour of beneficiary hospitals in Kagarko, Kachia, and Sir Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa Memorial Hospital, Kafanchan, Senator Katung said the intervention was informed by the urgent need to strengthen healthcare delivery in the district.
He noted that many public health facilities were operating with inadequate equipment, stressing that the donation would significantly ease the burden on both patients and medical personnel.
The Senator disclosed that about ten general hospitals in Kaduna South would benefit from the initiative, assuring that the distribution of the equipment would be based strictly on the specific needs of each facility.
Also speaking, the Project CURE team lead, Rosemary Polycarp, a registered nurse in the United States and volunteer with the organisation, commended healthcare workers in the district for their dedication despite limited resources.
She reaffirmed Project CURE’s commitment to supporting health institutions in developing countries and expressed optimism that the partnership would enhance medical services in Kaduna South.
Apex News Exclusive reports that Project CURE is the world’s largest donor of medical equipment and supplies, shipping about 45 containers weekly to developing countries at no cost.
In separate remarks, the member representing Jema’a Constituency in the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Mr Ali Kalat, appreciated the donors and pledged continued support for Senator Katung’s development initiatives.
Similarly, the Chairman of Jema’a Local Government Area, Mr Peter Tanko Dogara, described the gesture as historic, saying the people of the senatorial district would remain grateful to Senator Katung and his partners.
