A gubernatorial aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) In Kaduna State, Senatorial Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed has withdrawn from the primary election a day to the contest.

The Senator who is the founder of Baze University, Abuja wrote a letter to the state PDP chairman, Mr. Hassan Hyet.

The letter states that: “I consequently hereby respectfully withdraw from the 2023 governorship contest of Kaduna State under our great party the PDP. I however, remain loyal and supportive.

“I pray for the day we get our politics right for the sake of Nigeria. These are inconsistent with my purpose of being in politics,” he said.

Senator Baba-Ahmed said unless checked, what was happening within the PDP could jeopardise its chances in 2023. He didn’t rule out joining the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Baba-Ahmed was a House of Representatives member representing Zaria and later elected Senator of Kaduna North Senatorial District between 2011 and 2012.

He didn’t give specifics on why he was pulling out from the party primaries, but said that he would remain loyal to the PDP.

A source said that he pull out because “money politics” was displayed during the just concluded House of Assembly, House of Representatives and senate elections which is inconsistent with his ideology of how aspirants should democratically emerge as party candidates.

The primaries is slated for Wednesday. The other aspirants in the race are former governor Ramalan Yero and former member of House of Representatives, Isa Ashiru Kudan.
