The deputy governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State, Senator Uche Ekwunife, has strongly condemned the brutal assault on two women one of whom was visibly pregnant by a mob over alleged theft.

In a statement personally signed by her, Senator Ekwunife expressed deep shock and outrage over the viral video showing the disturbing incident. She described the act as a gross violation of human dignity and a direct assault on womanhood, motherhood, and the rule of law.

“No grievance, no matter how justified it may seem in the eyes of the perpetrators, can ever warrant such dehumanizing cruelty,” Ekwunife stated.

The Senator lamented that seeing a pregnant woman subjected to such barbaric treatment was “particularly gut wrenching,” adding that it amounted to an unpardonable crime against humanity.

Ekwunife emphasized that mob justice has no place in a civilized or democratic society, warning that it undermines law enforcement, erodes public trust, and fuels a dangerous cycle of lawlessness and impunity.

“This barbaric incident is a shameful reminder of how far we still have to go in entrenching civility, due process, and respect for human rights in our society,” she added.

Calling for immediate action, the Senator urged the Inspector-General of Police to launch a thorough investigation into the incident, apprehend all those involved, and ensure they face the full weight of the law.

“Justice must not only be done it must be seen to be done,” she emphasized.

Ekwunife also extended her sympathies and solidarity to the victims, calling on relevant authorities to provide urgent medical care, psychological support, and legal assistance to them.

“No woman should ever endure such horror. Their dignity must be restored and their safety guaranteed,” she said.

Finally, the Senator appealed to Nigerians to reject mob justice in all its forms and to resolve grievances only through lawful and constitutional means.

“Together, we can build a society where justice is served in courtrooms not on the streets,” she concluded.
