Senator Lalong meets Executive Director, PLAC, pledges partnership for electoral reforms

The Executive Director of the Policy and Legislative Advocacy Centre (PLAC), Clement Nwankwo has led a team from his organisation to meet with the Senate Committee Chairman on Electoral Matters and Independent National Electoral Commission Simon Lalong.
The meeting at the national assembly Abuja is sequel to his assumption of office as the Senate Committee Chairman on INEC and Electoral Matters after the redeployment announced by Senate President Godswill Akpabio last week.
This was contained in a statement by Dr. Makut Simon Macham, Special Adviser Media to Senator Lalong.
Nwankwo who congratulated Senator Lalong said the visit was to familiarise themselves with the new Chairman and exchange ideas on how to partner for greater results in the nation’s Electoral management.
He said PLAC believes that Senator Lalong has the experience and capacity to drive the committee towards ensuring that Nigeria’s Electoral processes are strengthened to better meet the expectations of the citizens.
The Executive director handed over some materials to Senator Lalong and informed him that there are various engagements that will bring the Center and the Senate Committee together as the time goes by.
Responding, Senator Lalong appreciated the visit and said as the representatives of the people, the Senate Committee on Electoral Matters and INEC will carry out its duties diligently in line with the constitution of Nigeria and within the vision of the 10th Senate.
He thanked them for the visit and said he was very eager to commence engagements that will assist the Committee serve Nigerians better.
Lalong said as a former Speaker, Governor, Minister and now Senator, he is very ready to bring his knowledge to bear in ensuring that the Committee gives its best.
Senator Lalong called on PLAC and other civil society groups to continue to engage with the Legislature, Executive and Judiciary in strengthening democracy in the country for the benefit of the citizens.
