The former Governor of Plateau State and Senator representing Plateau South Senatorial District, Simon Lalong, has expressed deep shock and devastation over the death of Prof. Yohanna Daniel Izam, former Vice Chancellor of Plateau State University, Bokkos.

Senator Lalong describes the passing of Prof. Izam as a huge loss to Plateau State, the academic community, and the nation at large, noting that his demise has created a vacuum that will be difficult to fill.

He recalls that Prof. Izam was appointed Vice Chancellor during the Rescue Administration at a very critical period when Plateau State University was virtually comatose.

According to him, Prof. Izam brought vision, discipline, and uncommon commitment to leadership, and was instrumental to the revival, stabilisation, and repositioning of the University, laying a solid and enduring foundation for its growth and credibility.

At the time he left PLASU, Prof. Izam had not only repositioned the institution as one of the fastest growing State University in Nigeria, but introduced more courses and faculties such as Medical Sciences, Law, Agriculture, and Environment Sciences in addition to holding various convocation ceremonies.

Senator Lalong further notes that beyond his tenure as Vice Chancellor, Prof. Izam served Plateau State and Nigeria meritoriously in various capacities, including as Commissioner for Housing and Transport, Provost of the College of Arts and Science, Kurgwi, and President of the Nigerian Institute of Building (NIOB).

In all these roles, he distinguished himself as a consummate professional, seasoned administrator, and patriotic public servant.
The former Governor describes Prof. Izam as an erudite scholar, accomplished technocrat, and selfless leader whose contributions to education, infrastructure development, and human capacity building will remain indelible in the annals of Plateau State.

Senator Lalong extends his heartfelt condolences to the family of the late Prof. Yohanna D. Izam, the Plateau State University community, the Nigerian Institute of Building, and the government and people of Plateau State. He prays that God grants his family and loved ones the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss, and that the soul of the departed rests in perfect peace.
