Senator Lalong mourns Imam Abdullahi Abubakar

The former Governor of Plateau State and Senator representing Plateau South Senatorial District, Simon Lalong, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Imam Abdullahi Abubakar of Yelwa, Gindin Akwati, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Senator Lalong describes the late Imam Abdullahi Abubakar as a rare symbol of courage, humanity, and selfless leadership whose actions at a critical moment helped avert a large-scale tragedy and preserved the sanctity of human life.
His intervention during attacks on communities in Barkin Ladi, where he stood firmly to prevent the killing of almost 300 innocent Christians by terrorists, remains one of the most powerful demonstrations of interfaith solidarity and moral bravery in Nigeria’s recent history.
The Senator recalls that Imam Abdullahi’s exceptional conduct earned him widespread national and international acclaim, cutting across religious and ethnic boundaries, and positioned him as a global reference point for peacebuilding and coexistence.
During the Rescue Administration, Lalong worked with Imam Abdullahi Abubakar as a Peace Ambassador of Plateau State, recognizing his commitment to unity, tolerance, and harmony and further ensured that the late cleric received national recognition of (MON) from President Muhammadu Buhari, underscoring the importance of celebrating Nigerians who choose peace over violence.
Senator Lalong notes that the passing of Imam Abdullahi Abubakar is not only a loss to the Muslim Ummah, but to Plateau State, Nigeria, and all advocates of peaceful coexistence.
He extends heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased, the people of Yelwa and Gindin Akwati, the Jama’atu Nasril Islam, and the entire Barkin Ladi community, praying that Almighty Allah grants the late Imam Aljannatul Firdaus and gives all those he left behind the strength to bear this irreparable loss.
