The Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, Chief Victor Umeh, has awarded a total of ₦64 million in scholarships to 326 less privileged students across Anambra State through the Victor Umeh Education Foundation (VUMEF).

The scholarship presentation ceremony was held on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at Canaan House in Awka. The beneficiaries include both undergraduate and postgraduate students from various universities.

Speaking at the event, Senator Umeh said the scholarship scheme, which he established in 1999, was inspired by a personal vow he made before venturing into politics to support children who desire education but lack the financial means.

He explained that the initiative was designed to ease the burden of tuition fees for students from poor backgrounds, irrespective of their religious affiliation.

The ceremony was attended by notable personalities, including former Governor Peter Obi, traditional rulers from the 52 communities within the senatorial district, Presidents General of town unions, parents of beneficiaries, and the Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Youth Empowerment, Dr. Nelson Umenugha.

Umeh noted that the foundation has produced numerous graduates in different academic disciplines over the years and emphasized that beneficiaries were carefully selected by their respective community town union executives. He assured that the foundation would continue to support the students until they complete their academic programmes.

Several beneficiaries, in separate interviews, expressed gratitude to Senator Umeh for the gesture and prayed for continued blessings and strength for him to sustain the initiative.
