SGF Sen. Akume meets Tiv gospel ministers, calls for prayers and support for Tinubu’s Govt
By Samuel Torlumun

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, (SGF) Sen. Dr. George Akume has called for more prayers for the success of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. The SGF made the charge while playing host to clergy men of Tiv extraction who are based in Abuja under the umbrella of Association of Tiv Ministers, (ATM) on Friday at his office, Shehu Shagari Complex, Abuja.
He said as men of God, the most effective and critical service to offer to the country is continuous prayers. As such explained that President Tinubu’s sincere passion for the development of the country, and respect for it cleavages is not in doubt; all that is needed is prayers and support.
“As men of God I implore you once again to pray for this country especially for the leadership, and particularly for the president. Pray for God to bless him, and protect him and enrich him with more wisdom to continue to serve in this country. He loves this country. He believes in our diversity that is why in his appointments, there was this reflection of diversity. And this is how it should be, that in order to ensure peace and unity, we must respect diversity. And when you are respecting your diversity, for the sake of stability, you have to employ the spirit of inclusiveness in the way appointments and strategic infrastructures are put in place.” He pointed out.
Acknowledging that, he is also a product of prayers, Akume specifically called for prayers for good health, for himself and his boss, as well as for prosperity and security of all Nigerians. He stated; “I thank you for always praying for me. Without prayers I don’t think I would be where I am today. I appreciate you so much for that, and my prayer point will always be this; pray for good health for me and my family; good health for Mr. President and his family. Also pray for good health for the entire nation, which has to do with prosperity and security. These are the critical things you have to continue to pray for”.
On fuel subsidy removal, the former lawmaker noted that hope has risen from the horizon as government policies are being put in place, and reforms being carried out in the finance sector to change the ravaging tide. He said the administration is looking ahead with hope and optimism that tomorrow will be certainly, better than today. He praised Tinubu’s courage for the removal of subsidy saying the subsidy regime was unreasonable, unnecessary and retrogressive.
On the congratulatory visit by ATM, the SGF said he was honoured and encouraged; “I feel highly honoured by your presence here today. You are here today, ministers of the gospel of Tiv origin. I believe with this huge number, you can make difference in the spiritual lives of our people. Our people need to be encouraged. And when you find difficulties in life, it is always commendable to encourage one another.
“You know, I am encouraged by the fact that you set up your ministries to ensure peace, unity and progress amongst the Tiv people, and amongst Nigerians. You are not restricting yourselves to the Tiv tribe, when one part cries another must go up to render a helping hand. It is only when a country is peaceful that development will not elude us”.
Earlier in his speech, the Coordinator of the group, Pastor Chris Daniel Orshio said the group visited to congratulate, and identified with Akume on his well-deserved appointment as the SGF. Adding that, as ministers of the gospel, they are not in doubt that leadership comes from God, as God will always endows those appointed to lead the people with requisite knowledge and wisdom.
According to the man of God, ministers of the gospel of Christ from the Tiv descent have come under this unification platform in order to promote peace, unity and progress among the Tiv, in particular and Nigeria at large.
“We are here representing a coalition with over 250 memberships and still counting. As psalms 113:1-3 says, it is good and pleasant for brethren to dwell together. Just as God remembered Noah in Gen. 8:1 and everything that was in the Ark and caused the water to assuage, the present administration under the leadership of His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has remembered and elevated one of our own, whom we are here to identify with, as a show of solidarity. Congratulations Sir” he stated.
The group noted that as the SGF, the lofty position is not without challenges, and therefore urged Sen. Akume to relate to them for prayers. According to the Orshio, the group is already praying for Akume as Moses of this time to deliver the Tiv Nation and Nigeria at large.
“Prayer alters activities. So we are making proposal to raise a prayer altar to indulge in the following; to receive prayer points from you or as led by the Holy Spirit, Exodus 17:11-13. Secondly, we shall also conduct intermittent fasting. There are some issues, before they go out, one must fast and pray, as Jesus said in Matthew 17:21… We hope and look forward for a better Nigeria and Tiv Nation,” the coordinator pointed out.
Other activities during the visit included special prayers offered to SGF by God’s servant, Pastor Nickson Igbayima and award presentation led by Pastor Engr. Gbande.
