Six people died and several others were injured in a horrific truck accident on Saturday night in Onitsha, Anambra State.

The crash, which occurred around 9 pm at the Upper Iweka axis, involved a truck that lost control, striking pedestrians, two tricycles, and a passenger bus.

The Anambra State Police Command has taken over the scene to maintain order and investigate the incident.

Spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed the tragedy, noting that victims are receiving treatment at local hospitals, and the deceased are being prepared for burial. Relatives of the victims have also been notified.

This incident follows a similar deadly crash two weeks prior at the Idemili Junction, highlighting the need for increased safety measures on Anambra roads.

The Police are urging drivers to thoroughly check their vehicles before driving and are promising further updates as the investigation proceeds.

“To this end, the Command while condoling the families and friends of the deceased and wishing the injured a quick recovery, cautions drivers to always do the necessary checks before plying the road. Further developments shall be communicated, please.”
