Southern Kaduna communities sign peace deal

Chief of Takad signs the peace pact on behalf of his subjects

Determined to restore enduring peace in local government areas bedeviled by crises in Southern Kaduna, a Non Governmental Organization has midwifed the signing of a peace pact by communities of the area.

The NGO, KAICIID dialogue Centre in collaboration with Ecumenism for Development And Peace Initiative, EDAPI, led the crises ridden communities into signing the peace pact after a workshop on peace held in Kafanchan.

Among other steps, the affected communities resolved to support social resilience, strengthen both local and national mechanisms for addressing differences and grievances and commit to building peace.

They equally agreed to prioritize inclusion on analyses and action, encourage public participation of all groups, including women, girls and youths in local communities as a vital ingredient to peace and development efforts.

The communities also signed to make space for building peace at all times and support every genuine efforts from every quarters aimed at supporting them in peace building.

Speaking at the occasion, the Agwam Zikpak, Josiah Tagwai Kantiok urged all to endeavor to forgive and forget the past and also relate well with each other to bring about the desired progress and development.

Similarly, the Agwam Takad, Mr Tobias Nkom Wada called on the people to change the narratives of crisis and accept each other.

In a paper presentation on Social Media, Reverend Dr James Wuye challenged the people to use the medium positively and shun dangerous speech.

In a remark, the Country Director, KACIID, Mr Joseph Atang regretted that most of the killings in Southern Kaduna are not perpetrated by the people of the area but instigated from outside.

He however said deliberate efforts must be made to foster peace.

The workshop drew participants from communities in Chikun, Zangon Kataf, Kaura, and Jema’a Local Government Areas.
