The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa Gwabin, has reiterated the commitment of the Nigerian military to restore peace and security across the country, calling on citizens to support efforts towards national unity and development.
General Gwabin, who was represented by Rear Admiral Ibrahim Aliyu Shettima, made the call during a Special Prayer for Peace and Security organised by the Southern Kaduna Muslim Ummah at the Sanga Local Government Secretariat in Gwantu, Kaduna State.
Addressing a gathering of religious leaders, traditional rulers and residents from various local government areas, the Chief of Defence Staff said that peace remains the foundation of growth and development. He urged all Nigerians, regardless of ethnic or religious background, to play their part in shaping the future of the country.
“Peaceful coexistence is the foundation upon which development, prosperity and unity are built. I urge every citizen to contribute their quota towards achieving lasting peace,” he said.
The prayer session, which brought together Imams and Islamic scholars from Sanga, Kaura, Jema’a, Kachia, Kagarko, Kauru, Jaba, Kajuru and Chikun local government areas, aimed at fostering peaceful coexistence among diverse communities in the region.
In addition to the prayers, the event also featured a free medical outreach for participants, where attendees received medical consultations, treatments, and essential drugs at no cost.
In his speech, the Chief Imam of Jama’a Central Mosque, Sheikh Muhammad Kabir Qassim, lamented the repeated ethno-religious crises that have plagued Southern Kaduna over the years, leading to loss of lives and property.
“God has blessed Southern Kaduna with fertile land for the cultivation of food crops, not just for local consumption but for export as well. But without peace and security, there can be no development,” he said.
He appealed to all residents of Southern Kaduna to unite and work towards restoring the lost glory of the region, stressing that unity is key to attracting investment and providing opportunities for the youth.
The cleric expressed confidence in the peace-building efforts of General Christopher Musa, saying the CDS’s commitment to dialogue and reconciliation would help chart a new course for Southern Kaduna and Nigeria as a whole.
Other speakers at the event highlighted the importance of interfaith harmony and community collaboration in addressing insecurity, and pledged to continue praying for peace and unity across the country.
