Special Marshals charged to see their job as service to humanity

Zonal Coordinator Special Marshall, Rs 12.1, Bauchi, Chief Magistrate Abdullahi Jumba has charged members of the Special Special to see their job as service to humanity which can only be rewarded by God. 

He also charged them to redouble their efforts in enlightening, educating and advocating for motorists particularly commercial drivers on the rising cases of road crashes that are claiming lives of innocent people.

The Zonal Coordinator Special Marshal in charge of Bauchi, Borno and Yobe States was speaking during a one day workshop for members of the Special Marshall, Bauchi State Command. 

He said that the aim is to empower the Special Marshal with the necessary techniques on curtailing road crashes in the zone.

Jumba Abdullahi said that some of the causes of road crashes include over speeding, dangerous driving, use of expired tires among others.

Speaking on the role of volunteer arm of special Marshal, DCC Operations, Muhammad Bature said that according to WHO, Nigeria is one of the countries with high rate of road crashes in the world.

DCC Muhammad Bature explained that to attain effective road safety management, the principle of Volunteerism was Incorporated into activities of FRSC.

According to him, ” Special Marshal should appreciate the uniqueness of their areas of operation and provide proper focus on Leadership and Displine”

He charged Special Marshal to dwell themselves more in Variety of life serving activities such as Patrols, surveillance, Driving habit, and monitoring road conditions.

The DCC Operations appealed to special Marshal to operate within the confines of their Code of Conduct and FRSC operational guidelines in their activities.

According to him, ”Patrol operation in FRSC context implies the process of engaging personnel, vehicle and Bikes as well as Highways with a view of surveying and monitoring, Educating, Enforcing, Rescuing Crash Victims, collation Data as well as getting the road cleared of obstruction to ensure safety of lives and properties.”

Also speaking,  former Vice Chancellor ATBU Bauchi, Professor Saminu Abdulrahman lament lack of inculcation of volunteerism activities in social life in Nigeria.

On his part the State Deputy Coordinator, Special Marshal, Godwin Obioha warned road users to avoid taking intoxicated drinks while embarking on driving.

The theme of the workshop was ‘Road Safety Management in in The role of Special Marshal.
