Nigerians who are well-to-do and public spirited have been called upon to give back to members of the society, especially the less privileged.

They advised that they can pull their resources together as associations to support the many welfare centres in the country.

This way, president of the BAY’S Sports Club in Calabar, Mr Anthony Etim Okon who made the call, was convinced that efforts of state and federal governments would have been supported and plights of the less privileged lessened.

His club visited the Infant Jesus Orphanage Home as well as Correctional Centre yesterday and donated food items, beverages and fat sums of money to the motherless children and inmates.

Okon explained that the gesture was part of their annual Thanksgiving events to enable them appreciate the goodness of God, and to ensure that the less privileged, especially the children and prisoners also have what to celebrate the Christmas with.

“We have visited welfare centres as a humanitarian and sports club, so that they, too, can be happy and celebrate this Christmas like others. It is one of the ways we give thanks to God for His goodness during the year.

“We formed the sports club to use it to encourage the less privileged, and to engage in sporting activities.”

Officials of the Home and Correctional Centre expressed gratitude for the donation of bags of rice, cartons of biscuits, beverages, toiletries, disinfectant and cheques.
