Dr Ogbonnaya Onu
By Akanji Alowolodu, Bauchi
Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu has been absolved of any link with the travails of the embattled Acting Director-General of the Federal Institute of Industrial Research (FIIRO) Oshodi, Lagos, Mr Chima Igwe who is currently on suspension.
In a press release issued and signed by Engr. Sunusi Abdul-Qadir Jos, President of the Northern Nigeria Youths and Students Front, while reacting to reports in certain media stated that the Minister cannot be in any way linked to the happenings with the suspected DG.
The release distributed to Journalists in Bauchi contained that, “The author should have known that it’s not the duty of the minister to appoint anybody to head any of the parastatals/agencies under his ministry”.
The national President of the Northern Nigeria Youths and Students Front further stated that, “we read with total dismay a piece written by a quasi organization named ‘Arewa Youths Assembly’ aimed at tarnishing the ever-glowing image of the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, H.E Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu”.
He described the writeup as “baseless, unfounded and apocryphal story which is hell-bent on injuring the hard earned reputation of this detribalized gentleman who happens to be an epitome of due process and patriotism in this country”.
Sunusi Abdul-Qadir Jos, added that, “The author with the pen name, Mohammed Salihu Dallami is on the payroll of one of the judas/enemies from within who sees this shoddy way of dragging the names of others through the mud as a way of catapulting himself to a position higher than the one he is currently occupying”.
He further stated that, “but out of his wanton display of ignorance linking Dr. Onu with what the suspended acting Director-General of the Federal Institute of Industrial Research Oshodi, Lagos, Mr Chima Igwe is going through” .
“If I were in the shoe of the author of this story, I would have started with suing the university that Mr. Chima Igwe claimed to have gotten his Doctorate degree from before jumping to this embarrassing conclusion simply because I was paid an amount of money to pull down an already standing man on the holy mountain of Arafat by hook or by crook”, he further stated.
Reacting further, he stated that, “In the piece, he said that Mr Igwe has been lapping up the title of doctor for 18 uninterrupted years forgetting that Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu only got appointed into that position in 2015 when the APC wrestled power from the author’s darling party PDP” .
He therefore appealed that people should desist from embarking on the project of pulling down another person saying that what the country needs now is building up in order to achieve the objectives of nation building through technology, science and innovation as the Ministry is doing under Minister Onu.
