The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Nasarawa State University, Keffi branch has threatened to sanction lecturers who participated in its 6th combined convocation ceremony.

The ASUU branch chairman of the university, Comrade Samuel Alu, in an exclusive interview with Apex News Exclusive on Friday said a convocation ceremony was purely an academic exercise and that stipulated that all academic most be involved and not a few selected lecturers participating in the process while a majority number are excluded making the whole exercise improper and in total aberration of ASUU mandate.

He added that the convocation was incomplete in the sense that there were no lecturers on ground to support the exercise except a few numbers of Deans and Directors, few HoDs so for it was an incomplete exercise.

“The union has taken note of those Deans and the Directors. I was personally at the convocation arena alongside the monitoring committee members. We went round and we’re able to picked them in camera and pen.

“And as soon as we are done, the monitoring committee will submit their report and we are going to call for an emergency congress to bring out the names of those strike breakers and you can be rest assured, following our tradition in ASUU, sanctions will be placed on them,” he said.

According to him, past sanctions from breaking national industrial disharmony were not so severe, probably that could be some of the reasons for a repeat of strike breaks.

He, however, maintained that this time around ASUU will sanction those that broke the strike in the name of convocation to serve as a deterrent to others.
