In an effort at actualising their dream of having an endurable platform for their involvement and participation in mainstream partisan politics through informed advices and broad based consultations, a wholly support group of the Peoples Democratic party (PDP) Candidate for the Kaduna South Senatorial Seat, Honourable Sunday Marshall Katung, “Students for SMK”, have commissioned their office.
Commissioning the office in Gidan Waya in Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State during the weekend, Honourable Sunday Marshall Katung commended Comrade David Yashim Thomas, the arrow head behind the formation of the support group.
Represented by the organizing Secretary, Sunday Marshall Katung campaign Organization, Honourable Yakubu Maji Lantana, he described Comrade David Yashim Thomas as a frontline unionist, social justice activist, and also an advocate for good governance.
The candidate commended the students for declaring their support for him, with the promise that he will place priority in Educational development if given the mandate in 2023, “Education is the bedrock of development in any society, hence the need to accord it all attention it deserves”. he said.
Earlier in his address at the occasion, the brain behind the formation of the support group, Comrade David Yashim Thomas mentioned that, the incessant support Honourable Marshall Katung has been rendering students, was what informed his decision to ensure that the Candidate gets the votes of the people from all nooks and crannies of the zone, including students.
Yashim stated that many students have received scholarships, grants and cash assistance from the candidate, which has enable them pursue their Educational careers, a gesture that has helped a lot, owing to the fact that the increase in School fees recently had prompted many students to drop out of school.
He said, providing the office to the students would assist them actualise their dreams in advocating for good governance, owing to the fact that they have organized themselves under a support group on a solid membership based with students of Kaduna State origin drawn from, Kaduna State College of Education Gidan Waya, Kaduna State University Kafanchan Campus, Kaduna State College of Nursing, and Federal School Of Statistics Manchock.
Comrade David Yashim added that, the Students For Sunday Marshall Katung support group is set to connect with mainstream politics of Youths, mobilizes and also influences other students in their campuses.
In a keen address at the occasion, a People’s Democratic party (PDP) stalwart in Kaduna State Alhaji Ali Fadi commended Comrade David Yashim for his initiative and urged the Students to carry their campaign to their various campuses and units.
Ali Fadi told them that they are all aware of the situation sorrounding their wellbeing as they pursue their studies, having the believe that PDP is the best party to vote, compared to any other Party in the country owing to the quality of good leadership the party has especially in human development.
It was against this backdrop that he admonished all and sundry to vote all PDP candidates from top to bottom, to pave way for meaningful development in the country.
In their separate address, the representative of National Association Of Kaduna State Students, Comrade Mohammed Tasiu, and the President, Kaduna State Students Union, Kaduna State College of Education Gidan Waya chapter, Comrade Danladi Louis Ninyio mentioned that Sunday Marshall Katung is not only a provider of succor to students in Southern Kaduna, but also students all over Nigeria.
According to them, giving the Candidate the mandate to represent Southern Kaduna in the Senate, will pave way for another level of Educational development in the area, against which backdrop they reiterated the students readiness to give him their unflinching support anytime the need arises.
