The Supreme Court has affirmed that the President elect of Nigeria under the banner of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his vice, Senator Kashim Shettima be sworn-in on May 29.
The presiding Justice of the Supreme Court, John Okoro led 5 others Justices said in their seperate and unanimous declaration which cited from the Constitution, electoral act and many references, that the Court cannot disqualify the President-elect, Senators Bola Tinubu and Kassim Shettima, the vice-president-elect as demanded by The Peoples Democratic Party, ( PDP).
The Justices held that the party failed to establish its locus standi.
The five panel of Justices upheld the Judgment of the Court of Appeal that the electoral act states that no Member of an opposition party has the legal right to challenge the internal affairs of another party.
The Justices said that there are evidences that Senator Kashim Shettima Mustapha has indeed written to INEC to withdrew his Senatorial candidature for Borno Central 6 July, 2022. And had been replaced by one Mister Kaka.
Justice Amina Augie made reference that the nomination for Vice President that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar was also nominated to be VP after he was elected Gov. But Boni Haruna – who is in the Supreme Court- was benefitted to succeed Atiku.
Honourable Cesnabmihilo Dorothy Nuhu-Aken’ova, the National Coordinator of All-Inclusive Movement for Bola Ahmed Tinubu had congratulated APC, Bola Tinubu and Senator Kashim Shettima Mustapha for the victory at the Supreme Court.
She praise the Judiciary for delivering Justice and urge Nigerians to support the incoming administration for they to enjoy the dividend of democracy.
Many supporters of APC who were at the Supreme Court have been celebrating that they are happy that Bola Tinubu and Kashim Shettima would be sworn-in as President and Vice President I three days time in Abuja.
The PDP had urged the apex court to reverse the Court of Appeal judgment.
