Tafawa Balewa community laud WASH stakeholders for sensitization, mobilization campaigns

Bakin Kasuwa Community in Bununu, headquarters of Tafawa Balewa LG of Bauchi state has lauded stakeholders in the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) sector of the state for carrying out massive sensitization programmes on Sanitation and Hygiene.
The community said that the various sensitization campaigns and advocacy have brought a positive behavioural change among the residents of the local government.
The assertion was made during a community awareness programme/ Feedback session organized by Women Development Association for self-Sustenance (WODASS) in collaboration with Rural Water and Sanitation Agency (RUWASSA) with support from WaterAid Nigeria.
It was as part of activities marking the 2023 World Water day, held at Bununu town headquarters of Tafawa Balewa LGA.
The stakeholders however reiterated their commitment to maintain a Hygienic environment, particularly as it relates to issues of water and sanitation.
One of the Stakeholders, Hadiza Abdullahi, a Housewife, thanked WODASS and RUWASSA for the continuous sensitization of women on Sanitation, particularly when the organizations conducted sensitization Programmes to create awareness on the activities WASH in the local government.
According to her, ” We are happy over this community awareness programme/ Feedback session because it has given us the opportunity to state the challenges we experiencing in the area of water and Hygiene, the improvements that has taken place since the last sensitization Programmes and what needs to be improved upon”
She added that, “As women, we are now bold to train and sensitize other women that are not here to do what we are now doing to keep a clean environment, particularly in the area of ensuring that our water is hygienic for use”
Another woman, Zainab Kashim also corroborated the views of Hadiza about the community awareness programme, saying that the sensitization Programme by WASH stakeholders has brought a great positive change in the local government.
She said that the communities are now open defecation free and sanitation has been beefed up, adding that cases of water borne diseases like cholera, dysentery, diarrhoea has reduced drastically in the local government.
She then called on women in the local government to continue to maintain a clean environment, particularly in the area of water and Hygiene saying such practices will fortify the health of their families and reduce hospital expenditures.
