Taraba State Government has expressed dismay over the lingering power outage in the state since 22 April, 2024 without intervention.

The outage also affected Adamawa, Bauchi and Gombe states.

Briefing newsmen on the matter on Thursday in Jalingo, Taraba State Commissioner of Energy and Economic Development, Engineer Naomi Tanko Agbu said the state is deeply saddened by the recent destruction in electricity supply caused by the vandalization of four transmission line towers along Jos-Gombe 33Kv line that caused the blackout.

According to her, the senseless acts of sabotage have not only jeopardized  the reliability of electrical infrastructure in the Northeast region but have resulted in widespread inconvenience and hardship for millions of people in the zone.

She assured that Taraba State government on its part is seriously working tirelessly with the Transmission company of Nigeria (TCN) and Yola electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) to address the situation.

Engr. Agbu who urged residents to remain vigilant and report cases of suspicious activities said YEDC has made available phone numbers and contacts for whistle blowers aimed at preventing further acts of vandalism and safeguarding the integrity of the electrical grid.

The Commissioner however implored other affected sister states in the Northeast region to be vigilant on transmission lines and called on federal representatives in the region to be proactive in probing the lengthy disregard for power restoration to the Northeast region of Nigeria.

The state government also expressed worry the Vice President Kashim Shettima who hails from the zone has not come to their aid as well as Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu since the outage.
